That's a Dial Tone

This comic was inspired by my son's trip to the office at school one day, when he needed to call home. When the receptionist handed him the land-line phone, he took a listen and handed it right back to her... "This is broken," he declared. The receptionist thought it was so funny she told me about it when I got there to pick him up.

Even funnier, was when I showed the comic to the teenage daughter of a friend of the family to ask her what she thought. She read it and smirked and said, "Wait, I don't get it. What's a dial tone?"

We don't have a land line at the house. Though we still have a land line phone that we can plug into the jack in the case of emergency, thanks to MiMom.

Kit Cat

Confession time, I'm not much of a cat person. I'm allergic, but that never stopped the family cat from sleeping on my head when I was a little girl. I would wake up with puffy eyes and a scratchy throat and a bad mood...

"What do you like to watch?"

Social Macho

For the most part, the children are pretty good about self-regulating their device use, and balancing it with other activities. The annual doctor appointment goes a long way, so they are not just hearing it from us!

The inspiration for this cartoon was when my son was having trouble moderating, and confiscation of the device was required. To his credit, he channeled the experience to a creative outlet, and came up with the concept for this cartoon. He also posed for it, with our beloved dog Macho, who I think was also delighted to finally get a spot in the family chronicles.

The other thing that is special about this cartoon is that the scene is at the top of our stairs, so those windows are the ones the children see each time they bound down the steps to start their next adventure. When I showed the sketch to my little girl, she lit up, "Hey, those are our windows!"

Head in the Clouds

I work for a cloud company, and my husband and I have been web developers for many, many years, well-versed in client-server technologies. So imagine the giggles when we overheard this one. Obviously Dad's experience has transferred sufficiently to Minecraft for my son's liking.

Just A Phone

When they were babies, and I nursed them all, I just to joke that all I was was a boob to them. Now, I'm just a phone.
